Capsule Features

 

Thick and Strong

Proximally attached to the acetabular labrum and edges of the acetabular notch

Distally attached to the intertrochanteric line anteriorly
1 cm above the intertrochanteric crest posteriorly


Reflections onto the neck called retinaculae which carry blood vessels to the head of the femur


3.3 Synovial membrane

 

Lines inner surface of the capsule

Continues onto the neck as far as articular cartilage
